SAVING ERASMUS

is the simple story of a reluctant prophet who finds love, humor and faith with the help of a community.

But there is more......

Saving Erasmus was written while I was in Divinity School and taking classes such as Church History, Family Sytems and. Saving Erasmus was written to combine most of the influences of my life and my spiritual journey-religion, church history and pop culture. Comedians such as the Marx Brothers helped to form my views-they lived in a real world and managed to maintain their humanity (Harpo). So much of what I have experienced is interwoven in the story, much as the history and experiences of other spiritual pilgrims is interwoven in how we view the world today.

The Name Erasmus

ERASMUS-The town of Erasmus is named after Desiderius Erasmus, a middle ages theologian who was a contemporsry of Luther. Erasmus wrote In Praise of Folly, which like Saving Erasmus, was satirical and ctritized many of the religious structures of the time.

Erasmus Hall High School is also the name of a famous high school in Brooklyn from which such celebrities as Barbara Stanwyck, Bawbwa Streisand and Alfred H. Ackerson graduated.

Rassie Erasmus is the current coach of the Central Cheetahs rugby franchise of South Africa
